Cumming, Georgia basketball coach, Tom Wortman, shares some advice.

In 1977, Tom returned to his hometown of Newark, Ohio where he has taught and coached since. The majority of that time was at Newark High School. Defensive football coach at Newark High School Defensive coordinator in five Licking Co/Muskingum Co all star games Head boy's track coach.

From 1988 - 1993, was on the football coaching staff at Newark Catholic High School as defensive coordinator. They won the State Championship in 1991 and were State Runners up in 1992. 

Tom retired from teaching at NHS in 2004 but continues as head boy's track coach at NHS.

Attended Muskingum College, New Concord, OH Played on the Muskies undefeated, championship football team of 1960 (QB and DB) 

Attended and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a BS degree in Education in 1965. 
Was member of MTSU track team. Fourth place, pole vault, Southern Intercollegiate Track Meet in 1963

First twelve years of his teaching and coaching career were spent in Georgia.

Carl Thomas Wortman, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11th, 2018, at his home surrounded by his wife Nancy and family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past eight years.

​Tom was born and raised in Newark and was a 1959 graduate of Newark High School. It was at Middle Tennessee State University were he met his wife Nancy (Sullivan) from Manchester, Tennessee. 

Tom retired from teaching in 2004, but continued to coach football and track at NHS until 2010. After retirement, one of Tom's favorite pastimes was playing golf, while spending time with his friends.

Earned twelve Varsity letters - three in each of four sports. (Only one of two men to achieve that distinction)
